Explore English colour words with pictures
Colour by Word introduces colour names through themed groups of familiar objects. Each printable page focuses on one English colour word and includes a colour sample to guide the activity. The drawings remain outlines for children to fill, bringing the written word into a practical colouring task. Subjects range from fruit and plants to animals and everyday objects across the collection.
Read the colour word together before choosing a pencil or crayon. Compare the available colours with the sample and name the selected shade aloud. Then look at the pictures and talk about where that colour might appear. An apple, a sunflower or a frog can provide a familiar starting point, while the surrounding details leave room for discussion and personal choices.
The white worksheet offers a slightly different opportunity. Talk about how white objects can be shown on white paper: outlines make their shapes visible, while nearby details can provide contrast. Across the collection, you can also compare lighter and darker pencils with the same basic colour name. There is room to notice differences without needing every child's finished page to look exactly alike.
Each colour has a separate A4 PDF that opens from its preview or button in a new tab. Print one sheet for a colour of the day, or choose several for a small display of English colour words. After finishing, find objects around the room that belong with the same word. This creates a connection between the printed activity and the colours children see in their own surroundings.
