Explore the year one scene at a time
The Months of the Year collection introduces the twelve English month names through complete scenes to colour. Each page gives a month its own setting, with people, activities and surrounding details that invite a closer look. Instead of a single isolated symbol, the illustrations provide a small world to explore, from winter scenes to the changing outdoor activities that appear across the year.
Choose the current month as a starting point, or look for a month connected with a birthday, holiday or family memory. Say its English name together and ask what the child notices in the picture. Talk about clothing, plants, weather and the things people are doing. These details can help make an unfamiliar month name part of a more meaningful conversation.
You can also compare two pages. What looks different between a winter scene and a summer scene? Which clothes would be comfortable in each place? Remember that weather and seasonal experiences vary between countries and from year to year. Use the drawings as prompts for discussion rather than a fixed description of what every month must look like where you live.
Each month is available as a separate printable A4 PDF. Open a preview or PDF button in a new tab, then print the pages you want to use. Finished pictures can become a month display, a birthday wall or a simple year folder. Arrange them in calendar order and revisit the collection as each new month arrives, adding colours, observations and stories from the child's own experiences.
