How to play Memory
- Make your cards. Print both A4 sheets from one game. Colour the two pictures in each pair the same, then cut out all 20 cards along the dashed lines.
- Mix and set up. Turn all the cards face down, mix them well and arrange them in rows so nobody knows where the matching pairs are.
- Take turns. On your turn, turn over two cards, one at a time, so everyone can see the pictures.
- Find a pair. If the pictures match, keep both cards. If they do not match, turn them face down again in exactly the same places.
- Swap turns. Now it is the next player's turn. Try to remember the pictures and where they are!
- Count your cards. Keep playing until all the pairs have been collected. The player with the most cards wins.
Printing tip: Print single-sided on thick, opaque paper or card, using A4 and the same scale for both pages. Leave all backs blank so the cards look the same when face down.

Make a matching game to colour, cut and share
Memory brings a familiar matching game into a printable colouring activity. Choose one of seven themes, prepare the cards and turn the finished pictures into something to play together. Each complete game contains ten different illustrations, with two identical copies of each one. The twenty cards are arranged across two A4 sheets, giving you ten cards to colour and cut from each page.
The themes include farm animals, jungle animals, objects, fruits, flowers, unicorns and vehicles. Pick a subject the players enjoy and name the pictures before colouring. Try to colour both copies of a picture in the same way so the matching pair remains easy to recognise. The equal card sizes and blank backs help keep the pictures hidden when the game is set up.
Follow the rules at the top of this page when you are ready to play. Mix the cards face down, arrange them in rows and take turns revealing two pictures. Keep a matching pair or return different pictures to their original places. Watching the other player's choices becomes part of the game, because a picture seen earlier may help with a later match.
Open a theme to find its two page previews and one complete PDF containing both sheets. Print single-sided on thick, opaque paper or card, using the same scale for both pages. Cut along the dashed outlines and keep each themed set together between games. You can begin with fewer pairs for a shorter round and introduce the full set when the players want a longer challenge.
